About us

An ordinary church on Burleigh Street.

How a soup supper turned into a church family.

Our story

It started with a pot of soup.

In 2015, Ben and Kari Lindqvist rented an empty storefront on Burleigh Street and put a sign in the window: Free soup, Sunday night, all welcome. Twelve people came the first week. Forty came the next month.

Somewhere between the soup and the dishes, people started praying together and asking about Jesus. Commonplace Church was officially born in 2016. We still meet in the storefront, and the soup is still free.

Our values

What we value.

Hospitality

Every person who walks through the door is a guest of honor.

Neighborhood

We are rooted in Sherman Park, and we love the people who live here.

Shared life

Faith is something we practice together, around tables and in each other’s homes.

Dinner is at 5. We set a place for you.
